Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) — BUSINESS EDUCATION/SECONDARY SPECIAL EDUCATION

(Program offered on-campus in Providence)

With the Johnson & Wales University Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Business Education/Secondary Special Education, you’ll obtain the knowledge and skills to launch your career in teaching. You’ll translate your passion for both business and education to make a difference in the lives of others.

As part of a dual business and special education cohort, you will develop your teaching skills through financial literacy, coding/apps, and general business methods courses. You will also take a deep dive into special education to serve students with diverse learning needs in a secondary setting—an area of great need in today’s schools.

Course-based fieldwork will provide authentic learning experiences, including opportunities to participate in classroom observations, hands-on experiences with individuals and small groups, and eventually planning lessons for whole-class instruction.

Upon completion of your coursework and initial fieldwork, you will be ready for the most dynamic experience of your journey: student teaching. Under the guidance of experienced teachers, you’ll have the chance to create and deliver lessons, manage your own classroom, and respond to students’ developmental and social needs.

  • Communicate effectively through a variety of formats such as technology, discussion, writing, and reflective listening.
  • Respond to students’ developmental and social contexts and provide access to high-quality teaching and learning.
